A lot has been said, so much more will be said concerning the need for every region to unite ahead of the 2022 general elections.
However, only a stranger with a reasoning in the neighborhood of zero will be duped by the so-called Mt. Kenya unity. A better, sexier, more convenient term is GEMA.
The term has been severally and conveniently exploited by our brothers and sisters whenever they feel insufficient in their numbers and want the support of the Meru, Embu and other friendly tribes.
Let not the few cabinet appointments fool you. A lot more happens in these governments.
The Meru, Tharaka and Embu people can only earn a place in the Uthamaki of the day whenever something needs to be voted on.
Whenever the real Athamaki feel that the they will lose without the 2million votes or so from Meru, Tharaka, Mbeere and Embu, the best negotiators will be seen crossing the Nithi bridge for the first time in several years.
During the BBi Reggae Session, the gods remembered us once again. With nice tunes that resemble our own, we had to be soothed.
So sweet were the tunes that we forgot the deception in the run up to the 2017 general elections.
Ask Garissa Township MP Aden Duale. Uthamaki PRO MAX, still in power at the time, promised to end our Miraa woes once and for all. Duale being a visitor in the Uthamaki circles could not keep the secret. it was a carrot dangled to the Meru people.
And do not be deceived. Our very own Munya and Maore are both from the Nyambene region. Can they push for anything substantial from the high offices? Not at all. They are mere placeholders.
At whatever cost, the Meru people have to chat and command their way on matters national politics, resources and leadership.
Without the BBI hullabaloo, we have to get reciprocation that is similar to our votes. We need to grab key government projects.
There is only one Jubilee project valued at more than 100M in the three counties of Meru, Tharaka Nithi and Embu. And that is the Milk plant in Kangeta which shall possibly never be.
The Meru, Tharaka and Embu People are the real freedom fighters of this nation. They fought for the liberation of Kenya, and for that reason, we got depopulated because the high rate of the loss life due to the Mau Mau war against the colonial rule.
Dedan Kimathi was a Meru, ignore the lies out there. Baimungi Marete, Musa Mwariama, General Chui and other Freedom fighters were all Merus. They survived the war but later died in mysterious circumstances.
For once I agree with Governor Murungi. Meru needs a strong Political Party. That way, we can talk to our friends in need from the house of Mumbi. Not as beggars, but as neighbors.
The Meru people deserve more than being called the GEMA family and Mt. Kenya region whenever a Tharaka Nithi moment is needed.
