Meru Senator Mithika Linturi lost his cool at a campaign rally in Mikinduri on Saturday after a section of the crowd turned hostile, terming them worthless drunkards who cannot afford a pair of shoes.
Linturi was accompanied by Imenti South MP Kathuri Murungi and Aspiring Meru Woman Representative Elizabeth Kailemia in a campaign tour of Igembe and Tigania regions.
On board a chopper, Linturi had just landed after addressing similar rallies at Kilili in Igembe South, Nthambiro in Igembe Central and Laare in Igembe North.
However, a section of the crowd at the Mikinduri rally turned hostile when the UDA gubernatorial candidate rose to speak, sparking his furious response.
“Huyu ni nani anakuja kupiga kelele hapa? Wacha upuzi. Watu bila viatu hawawezi kututisha hapa. Watu wa chang’aa. Watu wa kuomba shilingi tatu.” said a furious Linturi
(Who are these noisemakers? Stop the stupidity. Worthless people who cannot afford a pair of shoes, whose business is drinking chang’aa and begging for coins.)
“Wacheni tuheshimiane. Tupewe nafasi tufundishe watu wa Mikinduri vile serikali yetu itafanya.” (We need to respect each other. Give us time to educate the Mikinduri people about our agenda.)
Speaking at Laare market, Linturi promised to revive the crippled miraa trade and other agriculture subsectors if elected as the next Meru Governor.
“My Government will focus on bettering the Agriculture sector to empower farmers, especially our Miraa farmers and traders. We will construct modern markets conducive enough to preserve perishable goods to reduce losses incurred by our traders.” Linturi said.
Linturi also vowed to address various issues facing the health sector.
“It is a pity that our people cannot access health care in our hospitals around the County. My first job as your Governor will be bettering our health sector and hospitals and equipping them.” he said.
