National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi is set to join the Kenya Kwanza coalition which is led by Deputy President William Ruto and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.
Sources have intimated to Meru Daily News that Muturi, who is the leader of the Democratic Party will sign an agreement with Kenya Kwanza on Saturday morning in Nairobi.
Muturi had previously maintained that he would go all the way to the ballot in efforts to clinch the presidential seat in the upcoming August 9 General Election.
The National Assembly Speaker will become the latest key Mt. Kenya leader to join the DP Ruto led political alliance.
Saturday marks the deadline for political coalition parties to submit their agreements to the Registrar of Political Parties as per the Political Parties (Amendment) Act 2021.
Muturi had earlier accused Deputy President William Ruto of stealing the phrase ‘Kenya Kwanza’ from him, citing a billboard he had erected on Thika road with the same phrase.
“If you happened to use Thika road 3 months ago, you saw my billboard with a signature phrase ‘Kenya Kwanza’. Hii Kenya watu wamekuwa waporaji wanapora hadi signature phrase. Sasa nimeamua Wakenya mbele. Hii nayo msiniibie,” he said.
Muturi also stated that Kenyans have a tendency of casting votes to those who have been in government for so long.
“Let us not be blinded by big names. Elect leaders based on their track record not fame,” he said.
