The North Imenti Youths Association Chairperson Mr. Newton Mwirigi Gichuru has asked political leaders to exercise maturity in their quest for seats in Meru County.
Speaking a few days after several leaders were heckled by a section of rowdy youths in DP Ruto’s Makutano meeting, Mr. Mwirigi says it’s unfortunate that those implicated have not apologized for the mess.
“I strongly condemn the actions by Hon. Halima Mucheke and ask her to apologize to the North Imenti people early enough,” says the aspiring MCA in Nyaki East.
Mr. Mwirigi has asked Halima to apologize to the Nyaki East people for labelling them as hooligans and known hecklers.
In efforts to distance herself from the incident, Halima alleged that the people heckling Hon. Rahim Dawood and other leaders were from Giaki, Kiburine and Rwanyange areas.
The comments seem to have rubbed several leaders the wrong way, with aspiring MP Beatrice Karwitha terming them pure lies.
“Please stop these lies because the calls I received today on the same are overwhelming. The people from these areas are asking for an apology from you because you lied and portrayed them as hooligans,” says Karwitha.
According to Karwitha, the North Imenti people are not ready for drama, since they are already busy in their farms and businesses.
“It’s my humble plea that we focus on our campaign manifesto’s and stop dragging the names of the constituents into the mud. They are already on the ground with overwhelming challenges. Note these are God fearing people and very hard working and will hardly have time for vipindiree,” she says.
Citing fears of similar and worse incidents in political gatherings, student leaders in the region have called for an urgent meeting bringing together Church leaders, political leaders and elders.
“We hereby call for an impromptu meeting with political leaders, the clergy, youth leaders and elders to deliberate on the best way to curb this vice,” says Ms. Muthamia, the North Imenti Students’ Association Chairperson.
