The National Ordinary People’s Empowerment Union (NO PEU) has withdrawn from the upcoming Kiagu Ward by-election, citing ‘inexplicable issues’.
The Party associated with EALA MP Mpuru Aburi settled on Mwenda Nchamba to fly its flag in the by-election. Earlier this month, Mr Aburi said the party was going for a win.
“NOPEU is the most organized Party. We already have our candidate, and we are going for Kiagu for nothing but a sure win,” Mr Aburi said.
However, with less than a month to the much anticipated polls, the Party leadership has written to the IEBC with a decision to withdraw from the race.
“Due to inexplicable issues, we’ve seen it wise to promptly withdraw from Kiagu Ward by-election. We wish the remaining contenders, all the best,” reads a statement from the Party Twitter Page.
According to Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Mr. Aburi and his brigade will be drumming up support for Milton Mwenda (popularly known as Kabobo) contesting on his Chama cha Kazi Party ticket.
“I wish to take this opportunity to thank my soul mate Hon Mpuru Aburi and the NOPEU Party for withdrawing their candidate in the Kiagu By-Election Mwenda Nchamba and vowing to support the Chama Cha Kazi Candidate Hon Milton Mwenda Kabobo,” says Moses Kuria.
EALA MP Mpuru Aburi however disputed these claims, terming them malicious political hallucinations.
“Moses Kuria, that’s wishful thinking & such malicious allegations & political hallucinations should be treated with the contempt they deserve. However I’ve known you thrive well in lies and propaganda. I want to state categorically that I have not offered support to your alleged Candidate neither has The NOPEU Party offered to support your candidate for Kiagu Ward By-election,” said Mr. Aburi.
With a few days to the mini-polls, the contest will be between UDA’s Simon Kiambi, Jubilee’s Samson Magambo Kinyua and Milton Mwenda of Chama cha Kazi.
