A few weeks ago, Mithika Mwenda Mzalendo, Igembe South Constituency Mp aspirant launched a football tournament dubbed “Mazingira Tournament” in a bid to advocate for appropriate action against climate change and further his political ambitions.
The first leg was all nice and fun until Yesterday when the region rivals Athiru FC hosted Karurune FC.
The game attracted the highest number of fans from Athiru Gaiti ward with high hopes of settling the rivalry.
To our utter surprise,the game didn’t start as their was a heated up argument on why the opponents had foreign players contrary to what Mazingira Tournament Officials had been preaching.
They had declared that the league is only meant to nature talents from igembe south,and no team should have foreign players.
One of the top officials,who comes from Karurune was allegedly accused of telling others to avoid buying players only for his home team to come with more than 5 players from different regions.
Mzalendo, who has been the Executive director for Pan African Climate Justice Alliance for more than 10 years tried to talk the issue out but residents said his officials were biased and walked out of the field; angry and disappointed.
