South Imenti MP Kathuri Murungi is a worried man after popular comedian and TV host MC Jessy joined UDA in readiness for the 2022 polls.
In a Social Media post this morning, Kathuri unleashed a veiled attack to MC Jessy, terming his recent move a benefit to UDA in marketing, emceeing and Comedy.
“MC Jessy will also play a key role in marketing the party in both his emceeing and comedy career. Karibu nyumbani man,” reads part of a Facebook post shared on the legislator’s page.
Pundits argue that the two-term MP may consider running on an Independent ticket in efforts to avoid a confrontation during the Party nominations.
Kathuri Murungi, who won the seat in 2017 on an Independent ticket garnered a total of 32,942 votes while Mr. Gideon Kimathi, also an independent candidate got a total of 11,370 votes.
Other top contestants in the 2017 polls were Dr. Shadrack Mwiti of the Jubilee Party who garnered 25,636 votes, Ashford Mwiti Kirimi (Independent) – 13,926 votes.
Cornelius Muthuri of the Party of National Unity (PNU) scooped a paltry 1,424 votes, while Muriuki David of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) got 221 votes.
Kathuri opted for an Independent ticket in the 2017 polls, a move he says was orchestrated by his competitors’ plan to rig him out of the Jubilee nominations.
The legislator has been a leading champion of the UDA agenda in Meru County, and was expected to fly the party ticket in August unopposed.
He has however welcomed MC Jessy to the Party, saying the comedian’s decision to join DP Ruto’s camp is testimony that Kiraitu Murungi’s Mbus is yet to gain any significant popularity in Meru County.
“MC Jessy’s move to join UDA from Mbus (DEP) is a clear demonstration that UDA is the most popular party in our region and destined to form the next Government under H.E Dr. William Ruto. I welcome Jessy to UDA,” says Hon. Murungi.
