Meru Women Representative Kawira Mwangaza has received mockery and praises in equal measure after posting containers full of gumboots set to be donated to Meru households.
The philanthropic politician and media owner shared pictures celebrating the much awaited 20,000 pairs of gumboots, saying their arrival at the onset of the rainy season is a big blessing.
Hallelujah!!! Just in. H.E Bishop Hon Mwangaza receives containers loaded! With what? Gumboots!,” reads part of a caption posted on her official pages.
Mwangaza insists that gumboots are not only useful during the rainy seasons, but can also be used through muddy entrances, streams, shallow ponds, and many places where normal shoes cannot maneuver.
While several netizens laughed off Mwangaza’s new initiative, saying it’s a misuse of NGAAF funds.
“Let’s be honest here. Is this a priority amongst the people of the great County of Meru? Gumboots? Did she even do a public participation meeting to listen, analyze and prioritize the real needs of the people she represents or she woke up one day and thought that gumboots will give her political mileage during this rainy season? This is what I call blind leadership,” says Eric.
“What is the cost of a pair of gumboots and how long does the rainy season last? Kuliko usukume serikali itengeneze barabara mashinani, unanunulia watoto gumboots. Who advises you by the way?” says Mr. Mbaabu.
However, the outspoken 2022 gubernatorial hopeful insists that this is a great step in the right direction.
“If you want to keep your feet safe in the harsh working conditions, then gumboots can be your best friend. This rainy season I have a solution to our public schools children especially from Mashinani within Meru County,” says Hon. Mwangaza.
A section of Meru residents urged Mwangaza to consider their nearby schools among the first beneficiaries of the gumboots.
“Buuri High students need some Mheshimiwa. We have 360 students and our routes to school are pathetic when it rains. Our school is in Ruiri Rwarera Ward. You have never visited us and hope we are among the number this time round,” says Doris Mukiri.
Hon Mwangaza has declared her interest in being the next Meru Governor. She will be battling it out with Kiraitu Murungi, Peter Munya and other candidates.
