Just a few hours after President Uhuru declared himself an Azimio diehard and campaigner, Meru MCAs have reaffirmed their unwavering support for William Ruto ahead of the August 9 polls.
According to the MCAs, President Uhuru’s much hyped Sagana 3 meeting and the Jubilee-ODM twin delegates conferences on Saturday will not earn Raila Odinga a single additional vote from Meru County and the larger Mt. Kenya region.
In one of the videos making rounds on Social Media, Municipality MCA and Deputy Speaker Elias Murega is seen alongside Nyaki West MCA Martin Mworia Kiongozi and several other MCAs dancing to a vernacular tune dubbed ‘Ruto Mwendwa Witu’.
“Hatupangwingwi. We are not abandoning DP Ruto. If our support for Ruto makes you sick, then you better get ready for more. You will get even more sick and we will not change our stand. We are fully behind William Ruto,” said the MCAs.
On Wednesday this week, President Uhuru Kenyatta convened a meeting at the Sagana State Lodge – dubbed Sagana Three -where he made it clear that he would not be supporting his deputy in the August elections.
Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi was among key leaders from the Mount Kenya region who attended the meeting in what might be an indication that he might join hands with President Uhuru Kenyatta in efforts to deliver victory to ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Governor Kiraitu has however been giving mixed signals on whether he will join DP Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza camp or that of Odinga under the Azimio la Umoja Movement.
