Comedian and TV host MC Jessy has finally found his way to Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s fold.
Jessy, initially an aspirant in DP Ruto’s UDA, is contesting for the South Imenti seat on an Independent ticket. He has however vowed to support Kiraitu’s bid.
On Tuesday, Jessy was among political leaders from Igoji who hosted Governor Kiraitu for a strategy meeting at PCEA Miruriiri Church.
The meeting was also attended by the area MCA Kireria Mwobobia, a UDA candidate allied to Governor Kiraitu.
The comedian joined UDA January this year, a move South Imenti MP Kathuri Murungi said would benefit the party in marketing, emceeing and Comedy.
“MC Jessy will play a key role in marketing the party in both his emceeing and comedy career. Karibu nyumbani man,” reads part of a Facebook post shared on the legislator’s page.
Jessy would later be actively involved in several UDA campaign rallies, only to lose the South Imenti ticket to Mwiti Kathaara after ‘negotiations.’
“Jasper Muthomi (MC Jessy) will join the presidential campaign team after postponing his parliamentary bid in favor of Mwiti Kathaara for the South Imenti Seat,” DP Ruto tweeted.
Although he reiterated his support for DP Ruto, Jessy ditched the UDA Party and decided to contest as an Independent candidate.
In an interview, MC Jessy revealed that he was not willing to step down from the Imenti South parliamentary race under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, but was ‘coerced’ by the party leadership.
“In that meeting he (DP Ruto) persuaded me to drop my bid. My expectations were a meeting to discuss how we would conduct free and fair nominations for the UDA ticket.” he narrated.
“After the negotiations, although I did not agree with the suggestion, I decided to respect the party leadership. I later held a meeting with DP Ruto where we amicably agreed that I should contest as an Independent Candidate.” Jessy further revealed.
The decision by several Ruto allies in South Imenti to support Governor Kiraitu Murungi is a big blow to Mithika Linturi, a candidate in the Meru gubernatorial race on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
Earlier last month, Igoji East MCA Kireria Mwobobia castigated Linturi for what he termed unrealistic and fallacious campaigns.
“I am in the UDA Party, but the truth remains that Governor Kiraitu Murungi has done a lot in Meru. I would be the greatest liar to advance a narrative that he has failed.” Hon. Kireria said.
