Popular comedian and MC Jasper Muthomi, better known as MC Jessy is set to be endorsed this Saturday by Njuri Ncheke elders for the South Imenti MP seat.
The recent development comes a few weeks after the popular MC and TV host declared his interest in the South Imenti seat.
It is not yet clear on which party he will be seeking the seat. However, it appears both Governor Murungi’s Bus and DP Ruto’s UDA are occupied.
Meru County Chief of Staff Gideon Kimathi, also a candidate in the race, has given all indications of contesting on a DEP Party ticket, the new party associated with Governor Kiraitu Murungi.
On the other hand, the incumbent Kathuri Murungi recently joined UDA, leaving MC Jessy to choose from other outfits apart from the popular two.
With 177,000 registered voters in 2017, South Imenti was the most populated in Eastern region, and also one of the most prosperous rural constituencies in Kenya.
All the candidates will be hoping to take advantage of the constituency’s split debate to amass support from certain sections of the populated constituency.
South Imenti is made up of five wards – Mitunguu, Igoji East, Igoji West, Abogeta East and Abogeta West. All these areas have recorded a low turnout in the ongoing new voter registration by the Independent Electroral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Statistics from the commission indicate that a total of 5023 new voters were registered in the exercise that kicked off on October 4. Out of these, Mitunguu recorded 816, Igoji East – 570, Igoji West – 481, Abogeta East – 650 and Abogeta West – 876 new voters.
MC Jessy joins several other comedians and prominent personalities in Kenya who will be joining politics in the 2022 general election.
Kiss FM Presenter and events host Jalang’o has already declared his interest in the Lang’ata Parliamentary seat. Jalan’go will be seeking an ODM ticket in efforts to oust the current MP.
