Embu gubernatorial aspirant and Devolution Empowerment Party Chairman Lenny Kivuti has suffered a blow after his running mate abandoned him and joined Jubilee party.
While addressing Jubilee aspirants in Embu town, Emilio Kathuri said the move to leave Kivuti was because he feels that Kivuti has no capacity to win the seat in August.
Surprisingly, he declared that he will be running for the Embu gubernatorial seat and urged Kivuti to prepare for a fierce contest.
Kathuri described ‘Bus’ party as a vehicle that had developed mechanical problems asserting that he could not ride on it since it was risky.
“I alighted the BUS when I realized it was going to take us nowhere,” Kathuri said.
Kathuri who deputized Kivuti in the 2017 general election to seek for Embu gubernatorial seat said he delivered many votes to Kivuti, especially from Manyatta constituency where he hails from, this time around promising that Kivurti won’t get any votes from the constituency.
Other candidates who are set to battle for Embu gubernatorial seat include Njagi Kumantha who is flying the Democratic Party flag in Embu county, MP Cecily Mbarire and Manyatta MP John Muchiri who are both eying UDA ticket.
Governor Martin Wambora who has declared to vie for Embu senatorial seat will also be a factor in his succession politics.
Wambora is a mastery of Embu politics and he has since hinted that he will be supporting a gubernatorial aspirant from Manyatta.
