Meru Governor Kiraitû Mûrûngi now says he is ready and open to reconciliatory negotiations with his arch-rivals Mpûrû Abûri and Kawira Mwangaza.
In a new year message addressed to local media houses, Kiraitu says its time for all Meru leaders to work together for the benefit of the Meru people.
“My new year resolution is to seek reconciliation with my rivals. I am looking forward to meeting my sister Kawira Mwangaza for a cup of tea, as we seek to identify how we can work together to make the lives of our people better,” he says.
“I am also looking forward to reconciling with EALA Mp Mpûrû Abûri. Probably he will consider getting back to the ‘mountain’ to seek a different divine direction,” Kiraitu says.
But in a quick response, the EALA MP says he can only reconcile with Mr. Murungi in 2023, after his ouster in the 2022 polls.
Mpûru says Kiraitû’s call for reconciliation is only meant to derail him from his quest to ensure Peter Munya clinches the seat in 2022
“I am open to reconciliation with Kiraitu Murungi in 2023. God has already hinted to me that our relationship is becoming better, only that we can only reconcile after the 2022 polls,”
According to Mpûrû, Kiraitu has failed the Meru Community, by benefiting his family members through County resources.
“Your family supplied uniform for Meru Youth Service, is involved in cabbros supply. In your remaining few months, you cannot succeed in making Meru great. Your time is up,” says Mpûrû.
Mpûrû has also urged Nyambene residents to unite ahead of the 2022 polls to ensure Peter Munya clinches the Governor’s seat.
Meru Woman representative Kawira Mwangaza is yet to respond to Kiraitu’s call for reconciliation, having engaged the Governor in a war of words for several months now.
The two leaders have in the past traded accusations over sabotage of each other’s development projects, all because of the 2022 politics.
Kiraitu will seek reelection in 2022, but Kawira has trained her eyes on the same seat. The Bishop of the Baite Family Church is leaving nothing to chance in her quest to wrest the seat from Kiraitu.
