A section of Deputy President William Ruto’s allies have questioned Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s motive after joining the Azimio la Umoja Movement- noting that he did not make the decision out of his free will.
The Kenya Kwanza brigade which pitched camp in Meru on Saturday, March 12, wooing voters in the region to support Ruto’s presidential bid, claimed that Kiraitu was coerced to back Raila’s Azimio la Umoja alliance.
Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki noted that attempts to dissuade Kiraitu were thwarted by alleged intimidation.
The lawmaker claimed that that Kiraitu’s past would have been unearthed and used against him had he not joined the Raila team.
“We’ve spoken with him for more than six years, showing him that the ground, and Meru in particular, was with Ruto. However, towards the end, he joined Azimio. Is it the people that sent him there?”
“So, my brother, I’m sorry my brother but the ground has spoken. The next Meru governor will be Mithika Linturi,” Kindiki stated.
Expressing confidence in the Kenya Kwanza coalition, DP Ruto stated that he did not fear cheap antics, deep state politics as his side would eventually emerge the victor.
“They try to sell us the fear of the DCI, deep state, and the system but we want to inform them that we are not shaken.”
We will not let you down. Those who were at the KICC event were busy organising seats and positions of power and we want to tell them that Kenyans seek employment, economic shift, and an agricultural-based revolution,” Ruto stated.
Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi also took a swipe at the likes of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya whom he criticized for his allegiance to President Uhuru Kenyatta, noting that an outgoing Head of State cannot guarantee positions in the next government.
“The likes of Munya are being led to believe that they will get positions in another government by an outgoing President. My brother, how can a President who is retiring guarantee you a job in somebody else’s government?” Mudavadi posed.
This comes as Kiraitu announced on Tuesday, March 8, his support for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga.
Defending his decision to join the Azimio movement, the governor asserted that he made the move after a careful analysis of the political landscape and lengthy consultations with his constituent.
“We have done our analysis, we have done our research, the next President of the Republic of Kenya is Raila Amollo Odinga,” he stated.
