Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi may be counting losses after a bruising campaign trail that saw him lose for the first time in three decades.
Not so for some of his closest political allies, who appear to have made a kill from the campaigns.
Notable among them is one Praise Edwin Kiongozi, a political strategist and commentator who has stuck with Kiraitu through thick and thin.
An ardent supporter of William Ruto, Kiongozi managed to run Kiraitu’s campaigns while still in support of Ruto’s presidential ambition.
Meru Daily News has obtained exclusive images of a newly completed multi-million mansion owned by Edwin Kiongozi, with most of the vital works having been finalized.
According to a source close to the political strategist, neighbors and close friends are upbeat about the sudden change of fortunes.
“We know he supplies a lot of milk and other farm produce. But this can only be a product of the just concluded campaigns.” says a close friend speaking on condition of anonymity.
Complete with a perimeter wall, the palatial residence has attracted a beehive of activities in the last few weeks, with furnishing landscaping works almost complete.
Kiraitu Murungi lost to Kawira Mwangaza in the just concluded elections, something he blames on ‘internal sabotage’ by his long time rival Peter Munya and other leaders within the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition.
His loss prompted him to immediately seek an alliance with the Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza Coalition a week ago.
“We welcome the Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) to Kenya Kwanza. Their resolve to work with us is indication that leaders agree that the interests of Kenyans overrides our personal or party interests.” Ruto said when receiving Kiraitu to his camp at the Karen Office in Nairobi.
Kiraitu has since maintained a low profile, and has been conspicuously absent from engagements by Kenya Kwanza leaders at William Ruto’s Karen Residence.
