Trouble is brewing after a video emerged from Kawira Mwangaza’s recent political rally, with crowds dancing to a circumcision song mentioning Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi.
The video shows Kawira dancing with the excited crowds, seemingly encouraging them to dance to the tune.
The now trending video has sparked outrage inside Governor Kiraitu’s camp, with his lead lieutenants terming the dance a shame and calling for punitive action against Mwangaza.
“Take notice that Kiraitu Murungi is the duly elected Governor of Meru which unconditionally grants respect from all circles. You have crossed the red line by a show of unguided ignorance from your so called supporters,” reads part of a statement from one of the Governor’s supporters.
Several women leaders allied to the Governor have termed the video a disgrace, calling on Kawira to apologize, failure to which they will organize demonstrations in the entire Meru County.
“I wish to bring to your attention about a video clip making rounds across the county where one of Gubernatorial aspirants has mobilized youths and others to insult and abuse our Governor and the Ameru culture,” says Mary Kanana Nteere, one of the Mbus Party leaders.
“I appeal to us all protect our heritage from such aggressors who are self seeking, evil in nature and statute. Kawira abused the Ameru culture and heritage yesterday. She abused our husbands, sons and male grandsons,” she says.
Kanana Nteere says she will be responding to Kawira using her several platforms, among them Maendeleo ya Wanawake, where she has served as the Chairlady.
Mwangaza has however rubbished the calls to issue an apology, saying her supporters, just like the days of David in the Bible, were expressing their dissatisfaction with ‘Goliath the Philistine’.
“David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God? Therefore in our County leadership we need God fearing leaders to fight poverty!” reads part of her statement shared on Tuesday morning.
“Our hospitals are in pathetic state. Three patients sharing a single bed in our wards, no medicines. Our roads are impassable! No water in our villages. Great Goliath has stolen even milk meant for our children in public schools.”
“Great Goliath has stolen money meant for bursaries. Great Goliath with his family members looted all our funds meant to help us due to COVID-19 challenges! Great Goliath scaring Meru county should be circumcised spiritually to give us freedom! Freedom is coming soon! Circumcise every spirit of Goliath in Jesus Mighty Name.” says Kawira.
