A section of residents from Igembe have criticized the upgrading of Kaelo – Kamukuji- Mutuati road in Igembe North constituency, Meru county launched on Saturday morning by President William Ruto.
The 12 kilometers road which was aimed at easing transportation of miraa which is the major crop in the area was promised during the presidential campaign of former President Uhuru and DP Ruto in May 2017.
The project worth Ksh 530 million was later awarded in November 2020 to Rowler construction company and work began.
To date, the contractor has been able to construct 6 kilometers with the remaining other 6 kilometers.
Residents pointed out that they have been failed and let down by the Ruto’s administration to launch only 6 kilometers.
According to them, this road has been a kitchen of politics between different leaders in the area saying they had a high hope that could add them more.
They said they have seen several leaders in the area inspecting the road and thus it would be preferable if the President came to officially open.
“How can a whole President come all the way from Nairobi to Igembe, just to launch a 6 kilometers road? We feel let down.” said one resident.
