North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood has expressed his disappointment with the delayed gazettement of the proposed new sub counties for the benefit of his constituents.
According to the legislator, the push for Nyaki and Ntima sub counties that has taken more than 7 years appears to have been sabotaged by certain individuals in government.
“We have pushed for these sub counties since 2015. When President Uhuru convened Sagana 2 last year, I was promised that I would get the two sub counties after the meeting. Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and PS Karanja Kibicho reassured me that the sub counties would be gazetted. They are yet to give any reason for the unwarranted delays,” says Hon. Rahim.
“Juzi Tharaka wamepewa, Marsabit wameahidiwa tano. Nashindwa North Imenti iko na shida gani.” says Hon. Rahim. (We saw Tharaka receiving new sub counties last month. Marsabit has a promise to receive an additional five new sub counties. I wonder what’s wrong with North Imenti).
A public participation meeting convened at Kamunde Hall on 19th May 2018 had proposed that North Imenti subcounty be divided into Nyaki and Ntima sub counties.
The meeting was presided over by area MP Abdul Rahim Dawood and the County Commissioner, attended by five area MCAs, the District Officer, Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs and several other leaders.
Two additional divisions, Ntakira and Kiamwitari were also to be added to the existing ones. Ntakira Division to bring together Ng’onyi, Ntakira, Magundu and Kirugua Locations. Kiamwitari Division with Rwanyange Thuura and Ndiine locations.
Members also proposed the addition of several locations and sub locations. For instance, Ntakira Location was to be split into 3 locations: Nchaure, Kirugua and Ntakira. Ng’onyi Location was to be split into two, with the new location being Gitugu, made up of Gitugu and Kirima sublocations.
It was also proposed that Mpuri Location be split into two, with the new location being Kiamiriru, made up of Giantune and Matuntukine sublocations. Mpuri location to retain Mpuri sublocation and Mpakone, a proposed new sublocation.
Nthimbiri Location was to be split into three, with Nthungu and Kaing’inyo being the newly proposed locations. The new Kaing’inyo location to encompass Ntongoro and Kang’ondune sublocations, while Nthungu location was proposed to bring together Gachiege and Gitebe sublocations.
Igoki Location was to be split into three, with Gachanka and Kiringa being the newly proposed locations. The new Gachanka location to encompass Kathima and Tabiru sublocations, while Kiringa location was proposed to bring together Gitimbine and Kiringa sublocations.
It was also proposed that Municipality Location be split to form two additional locations – Kambakia and Gakoromone. The new Gakoromone location would encompass Gakoromone, Mwirine and Kooje sublocations, while Kambakia location was proposed to bring together Kinaani, Rwanyambo, Nkoune and Karumanthi sublocations.
Other additional administrative units proposed during the Kamunde meeting include Kirwiro, Kambiti, Themba, Kiruai, Mukua, Tuuri and Ruriine locations, and several new sublocations.
Speaking at a meeting on Monday, Nyaki West MCA Martin Mworia Kiongozi called on Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi to do everything possible to ensure the two sub counties are delivered before the August 9 polls.
“North Imenti gave birth to Buuri, and they are now enjoying their freedom. We need these two sub counties as soon as tomorrow morning.” says Mr. Mworia.
