Imenti North MP Rahim Dawood has abandoned plans to join Kiraitu Murungi’s Devolution Empowerment Party (Mbus) for PNU as he prepares to defend his seat in the August general election.
Speaking at the Meru Showground today during the sensitization forum for coffee farm inputs stimulus package and E-subsidy programme, Rahim remarked that he has already ‘sniffed’ the right political course and that Mbus is not anywhere close to his options.
It is not yet clear why the legislator shifted to Munya’s camp, although he has severally accused the DEP top leadership of favoring certain candidates, citing fears of unfair nominations.
“I want to categorically state that I have made a decision. I was a pioneer Mbus MP with CS Peter Munya as Governor. I have not lost my senses like the COVID-19 patients. I am not joining Mbus,” says Hon Rahim.
Sniffing is a term associated with Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s recent speeches, especially in regards to intelligently decoding the best political moves.
Rahim heaped praises on CS Munya for streamlining the Agriculture sector, and urged Meru residents to rally their support behind him should he be picked as Raila Odinga’s running mate.
“I was one of the pioneer PNU Councilors, representing Commercial Ward in Meru. As Meru leaders, we need to rally our support behind one of our own,” Rahim said in reference to CS Munya’s ambition of being the next Deputy President.
Also present was South Imenti MP Kathuri Murungi, who urged concerned parties to ensure pending court cases touching on coffee and tea factories management are expedited to ensure farmers reap maximum benefits from the reforms spearheaded by Agriculture CS Peter Munya.
Hon. Murungi says that at the appropriate time, the Meru County administration will be put to task for what he referred to as rampant mismanagement of public funds and abuse of office.
“I would like to urge Meru residents to desist from balkanizing South Imenti people as thieves. Those who have stolen public funds will be brought to book at the appropriate time,” says Hon. Kathuri.
Kathuri has severally accused Kiraitu of attempts to interfere with South Imenti politics, citing the Governor’s remarks late last year where he urged locals to elect a friendly Member of Parliament.
“Sometimes I want to intervene in certain situations but unfortunately, you elected someone I cannot work with. I would like you to vote for an MP I can comfortably work with in South Imenti,” said Governor Kiraitu.
Also present in today’s Showground event was Tigania West Town Administrator Anderson Mwiti Kathendu, who has declared his interest in the Meru Senatorial seat. Kathendu contested for the same seat in 2017 but lost to Mithika Linturi.
