Imenti North 2022 candidate Hon. Beatrice Karwitha has strongly condemned the hooliganism portrayed at the Sunday meeting in Makutano presided over by DP Ruto.
According to Hon. Karwitha, the Sunday events portray a great level of backwardness and lack of focus.
“I am shocked by the titanic political battle unfolding in my constituency, the heart of Meru – North Imenti,” she says.
The meeting at Makutano was marred with ugly scenes of heckling directed to nominated MP Halima Mucheke’s rivals and Meru Senator Mithika Linturi.
According to Hon. Karwitha, the lack of decent leadership and the dishing out of handouts to vulnerable youths is to blame for the unfortunate scenes witnessed at the Makutano meeting.
“It is a shame that leaders have failed to show their leadership strengths/traits by embracing peaceful campaigns but by dishing handouts to vulnerable youths to echo their political competitors during the DP’s visit last Sunday.
On his part, Imenti North MP Rahim Dawood has heaped blame on Halima Mucheke for the heckling, and urged the UDA Party leadership to investigate her conduct.
Rahim says the nominated MP squandered the money allocated for mobilization ahead of the Deputy President’ tour by paying a few goons to heckle her opponents.
“This portrays backwardness and lack of focus. I beg the people of Meru to keenly take notes of such leaders and send them home by their votes when the time comes,” says Hon. Karwitha.
