North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood has asked the UDA Party leadership to investigate the conduct of nominated MP Halima Mucheke over incitement and misuse of funds meant for DP Ruto’s Sunday tour in Meru.
Speaking to a local TV station, Mr. Rahim says Halima should be held to account for the 1.7million meant for mobilization for the Sunday meetings by DP Ruto.
“What Halima did must be condemned. Although she received 1.7M for the meeting, she only spent about Ksh 300,000 and paid a few youths to heckle her opponents,” Says Mr. Dawood.
Though absent from the Sunday meeting, Imenti North 2022 contestant Carol Karimi Muriuki termed the heckling an unfortunate shame to the Deputy President.
“This is extremely embarrassing to see a group of people paid to heckle fellow leaders. Whoever the master is, this is a bad show. Especially because it was done in front of the Deputy President,” she says.
According to Rahim, the rowdy youths were under instructions from nominated MP Halima Mucheke to shut down all other Meru leaders in order to impress the Deputy President.
“Halima wanted to prove her popularity using paid goons. In her mind, she thinks hooliganism will earn her a direct UDA Party ticket in the 2022 elections,” says MP Rahim.
Another contestant for the North Imenti seat Wakili Ken Muriuki says that although there are no civil rules in politics, the happenings on Sunday are despicable by all standards, and an all-time low for those involved.
“All candidates should do a thorough introspection and tame their supporters. We have several incidents where candidates instruct their supporters to insult their rivals even on Social Media. Everyone should exercise restraint,” says Mr. Muriuki.
The UDA Party leadership in Meru is yet to issue any statement concerning the Sunday events.
