Former Meru County Women Representative Florence Kajuju is set to make a major comeback to the Meru County political scene in the 2022 polls.
Kajuju narrowly lost to Kawira Mwangaza in the 2017 polls, and is the current Chairperson at the Commission on Administrative Justice (Ombudsman).
With Kawira Mwangaza’s open interest in unseating Governor Kiraitu Murungi in 2022, Kajuju is expected to have a field day with any emerging contestants for the Women Rep Seat.
With the fading hopes in the Jubilee Party, and with DP Ruto’s growing popularity in the region, Kajuju will face a dilemma in choosing the political outfit suitable for her careful comeback.
DP Ruto’s UDA has recently engaged in mass registration for members, and enjoys the support of several top politicians in Meru and the larger Mt. Kenya region.
Among the vocal leaders allied to the Ruto faction is Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiiri, Igembe Central MP Kubai Kiringo and his Igembe South counterpart Mwirigi.
North Imenti’s Rahim Dawood has maintained a middle ground position in the Jubilee party fallout between Ruto and his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta. Dawood has however been attending Ruto’s functions in Meru.
Kajuju’s hands are however not tied, especially with the recent developments around the formation of a party by the Mt. Kenya East leaders.
The group led by Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi insists that the Mt. Kenya East region needs a political party that will ensure their interests are well catered for post-2022.
Kajuju is best known for her several legislative actions in Parliament that sought to better the lives of the Meru people, especially concerning the Miraa crop.
