In November last year, DP Ruto came under fire from Governor Kiraitu’s lieutenants for what they termed as ‘disrespectful remarks’ while on a tour in Meru.
The irate DP launched scathing attacks on Governors and government officials supporting Raila’s candidacy, accusing them of forcing the ODM leader on the electorate. In the same breath, he sent a message to Governor Kiraitu, warning him not to take the Meru people for fools.
“Please tell my friend Kiraitu Murungi that we have brains and he should not engage us with nonsense,” he said.
But in a likely turn of events, DP Ruto is now seeking an alliance with Governor Kiraitu’s new Devolution Empowerment Party, alias MBUS.
Speaking at a rally in Kariene Market on Saturday, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua revealed that they will soon be meeting Governor Kiraitu in efforts to convince him to join the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
“Nimesikia mmepitisha Mzee wetu wa heshima Kiraitu Murungi akuje tufanye kazi pamoja. Mmetutuma tumtembelee. Tuongee na yeye. Tumwambie vile mmetumana. Akikuja Kenya Kwanza mambo itakuwa mzuri.” Gachagua said at a rally in Kariene Market on Saturday.
(“I have heard that the Meru people would like us to work with Governor Kiraitu Murungi. We will visit him and deliver this message. We would like to have him in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.”)
Gachagua also took a swipe at Agriculture CS Peter Munya for what he termed forcing Raila Odinga down the throats of the Meru people.
The Deputy President is on a 3-day visit in Embu, Meru and Tharaka Nithi Counties, in efforts to woo more allies to his newly formed Kenya Kwanza Alliance in readiness for the August 9 general election.
On Saturday, Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki shelved his gubernatorial ambition in favor of Governor Muthomi Njuki, also a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Speaking at the Kathwana rally, visiting DP Ruto urged Professor Njoka to join the party, promising free and fair nominations.
On Sunday morning, Ruto attended a mass at a Catholic Church in Meru, and is scheduled to hold public rallies at Kiutine in Igembe Central and later in Kionyo, Governor Kiraitu’s home village.
He is also expected to attend a meeting in Buuri constituency, and three other rallies in North Imenti, Tigania West and Tigania East on Monday.
