Governor Kiraitu Murungi has opened a satellite Blood Transfusion center and the newly refurbished offices at Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Governor Kiraitu said the satellite center is meant to ensure the availability of blood in Meru and eliminate the need for fetching the same from Nairobi.
According to Governor Murungi, the new transfusion center will serve the new ICU facility, the Renal Unit and the Cancer Center.
Deputy Governor Titus Ntuchiu noted that the Facility Improvement Fund (FIF) had actualized the renovation process and refurbishment works at the Referral Hospital.
Speaking during the launch event, Governor Murungi urged the striking nurses and other medical staff to take their jobs seriously and resume their duties.
“The Nurses Union insists that the strike is still on, but remember we are their employer. We cannot continue paying people who are busy doing other things at home,” Kiraitu said.
Also present was Municipality Ward MCA Elias Murega, who congratulated the Kiraitu administration for the functional ICU facility.
“I hereby recant my earlier statement where I said that no such facility exists in Meru. I have seen it and I can confirm that it’s indeed a great initiative,” Murega said.
